Conditions in Work Zones - Comedy Class Topic

Orange flags, signs, or signal persons may warn you that workers and equipment are ahead. Slow down. Watch out. Texas traffic congestion is increasing on our roads. Many roads are being widened and added to keep up with the demand. This means more work zones. Many times, especially in large cities, this work is done at night. This adds to the risks associated with drowsy drivers and poorvisibility. More than 41,000 injuries and about 1,000 fatalities occured in work zones every year from 1999 to 2003.

A work area speed limit as low as 25 MPH (40 km/h) may be posted. Even if no speed limit is posted, you must drive at a reduced speed through the work zone.

When you approach a work zone traffic may be controlled by a flag person. These illustrations show some of the signals a flag person will use. You must always obey flag persons.
