How it works
Texas Defensive Driving explained
If you were cited for a moving violation in Texas or want to lower your auto insurance bill, the Texas defensive driving course—also called a Texas driving safety course—lets you complete state-approved training online and submit a certificate to your court or insurer. Comedy Safe Driver is a TDLR-approved provider (CP-360) with School License C3132, so our certificate is accepted statewide when your court or insurance company authorizes the course.
Here’s the short version: register online, complete the 6-hour course at your own pace, pass the final, and pick the delivery method your court allows—E-File where available, Download when permitted, or Mail for a paper copy. If your court or judge also requires a Texas Type 3A driving record, you can order it in minutes.
Ticket dismissal in Texas: how it works
- Request permission from your court by the due date shown on your citation.
- Enroll in our Texas defensive driving course using the case details from your paperwork.
- Finish the course (modules + final). You can start/stop anytime—your progress is saved.
- Get your certificate via Mail/Download or we E-File to participating courts.
- Turn in everything your court asks for by the deadline: certificate, driving record (if required), and any fees/fines.
Courts have the final say, and eligibility resets every 12 months for ticket dismissal. Always follow the instructions on your citation or deferral agreement.
Insurance discount in Texas
Most Texas insurers offer a safe-driver discount for completing an approved course. You don’t need court permission for the discount path—just complete the course and send your insurer the certificate. See details on our Insurance Discount page and confirm the discount amount with your carrier.
What’s inside the course
- Texas traffic laws, right-of-way, signage, and roadway etiquette
- Defensive driving strategies for speed management and safe following distance
- Risk awareness: distractions, impairment, weather, night driving
- Crash prevention, lane changes, intersections, and freeway safety
- Sharing the road with motorcycles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and trucks
Lessons are short and conversational—with a little comedy to keep things moving—so most students finish in a single sitting, while others break it up over a day or two.
